The mission of Friends of Literacy is to transform lives through literacy and foster a lifelong love of reading.
Our programs help adults, children, and families gain the reading skills they need to achieve their goals and decrease literacy disparities between low-income children and those from more affluent families.
We provide reading tutoring for children and adults because reading proficiency is the key to academic success and to successfully navigating the world. We put books in low-income homes because research shows that lack of access to books is the single biggest barrier to literacy development in the United States. We provide parents with tools and resources to be reading coaches for their children because parent involvement is the number one predictor of early literacy success and future academic achievement for children.
